Looking Back To See The Future: Part 2

Part Two

Twenty twenty-two was nothing less than all-around transition year. First and foremost, I stopped drinking as much. When I tell you I would drink a bottle of wine in one sitting with no problem?! It was my norm. However, for Lent I gave up alcohol and it helped me form a better habit where I wasn’t casually drinking all day. Once Lent was over, I realized I had lost almost 10 pounds without doing anything different - no change in diet or increase in physical activity. Simply removing alcohol from my diet made a significant difference in my weight and health. In April, I decided to work out with a personal trainer for a month of intense workouts and a drastic change in my diet. I learned even more about what I should and shouldn't be eating. From there, I changed my diet into becoming a lifestyle and worked out more on my own. I will swear by Hotworx as far as maintaining weight and staying active when you are pressed for time. Especially as a nurse, the hours for personal training don’t always work well with your schedule. Hotworx consists of 15 or 30 minute workouts that range from HIIT cycling to yoga or pilates in an infrared sauna (125℉ to130℉), so there really isn’t an excuse on why you couldn’t find 15 minutes in your day. I felt like I was in the best shape (no abs or anything, I just felt good and enjoyed my body) I’ve been in, in a long time. I was very proud of myself and ready to be even more intentional about my health.

Throughout this time I kept seeing videos here and there of ingredients in a lot of the foods I’ve bought before (some I felt were”healthy”) and how a lot of the ingredients are toxic. Learning that more than a few of the approved food in America can cause cancer, hyperactivity, etc. SHOCKED me and sparked my interest in more holistic health. At this point I don’t really know what I can even eat. Even the “healthy” foods might as well be poison for the body. Nevertheless, I try not to obsess over it and just pay more attention to what i’m putting in body. I gained even more knowledge about health and the relationship of diseases to the food we consume when I bought ‘African Holistic Health’ by Llaila O. Afrika. Skimming through this book made me realize how the food America allows us to consume is poisoning us; it has also changed my perspective on my profession as a nurse in the hospital setting. Feeling as though I’m partaking in a capitalist scheme that keeps people sick for money that I do not believe in has made me want to leave the hospital setting even more so than before. On the other hand, I will continue to relay what I’ve learned to my patients when appropriate to help them be more aware of what they are eating and jumpstart a new healthy life.

The knowledge I have attained over the year is invaluable. Everything I learned was needed to accomplish the goals I had set. Now, When I looked back on my 2022 goals I’m so happy to say that I actually accomplished 75% of it and am ready to continue building to go harder in 2023. As for my 2023 goals ? Many of them are the same, just bigger! And some things that have been removed I have completely integrated into my lifestyle to where it needs no goal. I learned so much and put a few things in motion to completely manifest this year. 2022 changed the trajectory of my life; and 2023 will be a year where I take everything I’ve learned and manifest it into a reality.  I’m taking “THINK BIG B***H” personal.

I can’t wait for y’all to see what I’ve been working on !

Keep It G and move in silence ,
